The Wild Foods Truffle Hunting adventure is an easy day trip from Rome and a great way to experience some traditional culture and cuisine from the green heart of Italy, Umbria.
Getting here from Rome requires a train ride to Spoleto, followed by a drive up to Pettino.
Spoleto is a scenic 1 hr 45 min train ride from Rome Termini.
For your convenience, we coordinate with a professional NCC driver to meet you at Spoleto train station. They provide round-trip transport to Pettino for the truffle hunt and back to the station.

Truffle Hunting Day Itinerary
Depart Rome Termini station 7:13am
Catch the 7:13am train from Rome’s termini station to Spoleto. This is a regional train and you will need to book and purchase your own ticket, the train does not usually get full so there is no rush to book. Visit Trenitalia’s web site to see schedules and train booking options. We are happy to help you with any information about trains, so please don’t hesitate to write to us.
Arrival & pickup at Spoleto at 9:30am
From here an NCC driver will be waiting to pick you up. The station is small and very easy to meet the driver. It’s a scenic 30 minute ride up to the town of Pettino at 1100 meters above sea level. Ask your driver to stop to photograph the breathtaking views of the Umbrian Valley.

Depart for Spoleto in time for the 4:14pm train to Rome
After your traditional Umbrian lunch in Pettino, your independent NCC driver will take you back to Spoleto via the scenic drive down the mountains with breathtaking views of the valley.
You will arrive to Spoleto train station in time to catch the 4:14pm regional train back to Rome. You could also catch a later train to Rome and visit Spoleto’s historic center.
